Week 1: Here We Go!

Tuesday was Day 1 of Week 1 of the run/walk program I found. Very similar to a Couch to 5K program. Week 1 is walk 5 minutes and run 1 minute, repeat 3 times and aim for 3 times a week. I wanted to start on Monday, but i wasn't feeling well. Fighting a sore throat and still am. Plus my husband wasn't home in time for me to leave. Can't leave the kiddos alone! So i started out on Tuesday evening. I found the Runkeeper app for my Android phone since it will let me set intervals on a timer and then dings when it's time to change. Pretty handy. And it was free! Shows how far you've gone, your pace, approximate calories burned and other info. Headed out on my 5 minute warm up walk, then it dinged and time for my 1 minute run. I was nervous! Told myself, i can do this, it's only a minte. It was one long minute, but it was quick too. Just when i though my lungs were going to explode and my legs were on fire, it was time for the walk. That wasn't so bad. My 5 minutes of walking was supposed to be at a brisk pace to keep my heart rate elevated but it was all i could do to lift my legs to walk! i went  as quickly as I could. The 5 minute walk seemed to really drag on. I almost found myself looking forward to the run part. Almost. Me? Really? Maybe....Could i really turn myself into a runner? The whole workout seemed to go pretty well. I went for 2 miles (39 minutes). The workout was over before i was close to home, so i finished it with just walking. My legs were pretty tired by the time i got home. I was pretty sore yesterday and still am today. I hope to one day have to lean legs of a runner. Maybe, just maybe, next summer i could wear a bikini. Maybe. That would require a lot of shaving though.....I'll see where these 8 weeks take me. Aug 13th is the 8 week mark, unless i repeat a week. I need to weigh myself and take some measurements and hope to see some results. I don't expect over night results, I know it will take time. Hopefully with the long days and nice weather i can get a good groove going so when it's dark by the time i get home from work and cold,. i can move to the gym and treadmill run. Treadmill run. Ick, but oh well. I'll cross that bridge when i get there. Tonight will be day 2 as long as all goes to plan. Remind me to stretch better! My plan is Mon, Wed, Fri do the walk/run and on Tues and Thurs do Pilates or toning bands, or something along those lines. Sat and Sun will be my normal run around the house cleaning after 2 boys and a husband.
