Winter Fun!

James cruising down the hill!

Last weekend we went sledding up at Steamboat Gulch about a mile or two out of Idaho City. We had lots of fun! We hadn't gone in 2 year. They did make some changed. A local volunteer group took over the area and now it cost $5 to sled on the hill. I was alittl bummed at first at having to pay now but when i read the brochure i saw they want to use the profits to make improvments to that area. A friend of ours that came with us told us how it used to be 20 years or so ago. I am hoping thee are trying to get back to that. $5 for a truck load of 6 us of to sled for the day wasn't too bad. They now have a seperate parking area and snowmobiles and 4 wheelers aren't alowed anymore in the sledding area. So much safer! Seems to keep the rif raf down too. And they had 2 port a potties! Even better! No more hiking half mile in the snow to find a bush with no one around and drop pants to pee in the snow! Hopefully they can keep the potties a bit cleaner than they were when we were there. Or have more. Looking forward to going back and going next winter too and see if they make more improvments. Kids had so much fun. I had two very sleepy little boys that day! i also have come to the conclusion they need to make better snow gloves for kids. All you can really find are those stretchy knit ones that get snow stuck all over them. We went through 4 pairs each for the boys. I also need to get some thermals to wear under my clothes. Normally we would have had a fire but were unsure if we could have one. So we would have dried the gloves by the fire. I looked at the website and we can have a fire so maybe next time!
